Last month Integra Lifesciences held a superb orthopaedic symposium, focusing on extremity and spine surgery. As Integra’s exclusive UK distributor for upper limb surgery, Osteotec were invited to take part in the Hand & Wrist Days and 10 delegates from around the UK attended.
The impressive international faculty, including Mark Ross (Australia), Brian Adams (USA) and Anthony Hearnden (UK) presented on aspects of surgery, clinical outcomes and biomaterials, focusing on highly innovative Pyrocarbon.

Pyrocarbon has gained widespread acceptance for use in orthopedics due to its excellent biocompatibility, extremely low friction coefficient, and high resistance to wear. Implants manufactured from Pyrocarbon can be designed to match the stiffness of cortical bone improving load transfer and thus decreasing loosening, leading to a potential reduction in revision surgery and hence cost to the healthcare system.
Osteotec is one of only two suppliers that offer hand and wrist implants based on innovative Pyrocarbon technology. After the presentation, delegates were able to gain ‘hands-on’ experience with the implants at sawbones demonstrations and also at the excellent exhibition of the Integra product range.
